Replacing and Recycling Your Copy Machine Ink Cartridges

There comes a time in every copy machine’s life when the ink cartridge will need to be replaced. Thankfully, modern copy machines make accomplishing this simple task extremely easy. The biggest challenge you may have is making sure you purchase the right ink cartridge for your copy machine.

To avoid making a mistake, check the user’s manual for information about the type of cartridge your copier uses. If the manual is nowhere to be found, don’t worry, you can also find the information you need printed on the cartridge’s casing. Therefore, all you will need to do is open the copy machine and check out what is currently installed.

For the environmentally conscious, there are several ways you can recycle used ink cartridges once the new ones are installed. Many office supply stores have a place where you can turn in used cartridges and some will even award you a store credit for each one you give them.

If your local office store doesn’t have a recycling program, some manufacturers are all too happy to have empty cartridges returned to them. You may have to call the manufacturer and directly inquire about their recycling program. Those that have one will usually send postage paid packaging for you to return the cartridges in.

If those two options fail, check online for organizations that will take your used ink cartridges. Most will be for profit companies who will basically refill and resell them. In this age of global warming, however, that is a much better option than letting those empty cartridges take up space in a landfill.
